About the WrapidShield 360
The WrapidShield 360 was intended to wrap and seal inflatable bubble material on a variety of sized products by encasing them in a cocoon of bubble. The cocoon could accommodate various sized products. The WrapidShield 360 was targeting the E-Commerce industry to reinvent the way packages were shipped. The goal was to eliminate the need of a box to protect packages. The WrapidShield 360 scans shipping labels and transfers information into a queue. That information is applied to a new shipping label and is placed on the outer surface of the bubble package. The cocoon then sealed on the leading and trailing edges by a cool cut hot knife cross seal. The bar-code is then scanned by a discharge scanner that verifies that the correct label has been applied to the package.
My Involvement:
I was on this project from the conceptual phase and carried the WrapidShield 360 through each design and production phase.

My role on the project was to design the functionality of the following function/features:
-
Designed prototypes and tested various methods to control and form the bubble cocoon.
-
Designed frame, festoon system, web handling layout.
-
Utilized SolidWorks to generate sheet metal, machined, and welded components.
-
Generated assemblies and weldment drawings using ANSI standard drafting.
-
Derived new components from existing known technologies within Sealed Air products.
